Vegetarians typically don’t have to specify “no meat or plastic” when buying food, but a MorningStar Farms recall begs to differ.

The plant-based food brand has recalled vegetarian chicken nuggets and sausage patties due to the possible presence of plastic, according to a Monday, June 22, announcement published by the Food and Drug Administration.

Think you might have one of the affected products? Here’s what you need to know about the MorningStar Farms recall.

    What products are affected?

The two recalled products were distributed in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica. Here is the specific information for the items distributed in the U.S.

    • 10.5 oz bags of “MorningStar Farms Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets” with a UPC code of 000 28989 10110 5. The affected batches have “best by” date ranges of July 7 and 8, 2027.
    • 8 oz bags of “MorningStar Farms Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties” with a UPC code of 000 28989 10094 8. The affected batches have “best by” date ranges of July 5, 6, and 7, 2027.

Where and when was the product sold?

As of now, all we know is that the two recalled products were sold in the United States. The recall notice, which was also published on the website of MorningStar Farms’ parent company, Kellanova (which is owned by Mars Inc.), does not list specific retailers.

Fast Company has reached out to MorningStar Farms for more information about how plastic might have entered the food and where the products were sold. We will update this post if we hear back.

What should I do if I have this product?

Don’t eat any Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets or Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties impacted by the recall. Instead, MorningStar Farms directs you to discard the items and contact the brand for a full refund.

You can contact MorningStar Farms from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST, Monday to Friday by phone (800-962-1020) or through text (877-453-5837).
